About Our School

Marie Curie Elementary, built in 1963, is located in University City, a community named for its proximity to the University of California, San Diego.  We serve some 600 students in grades TK-5.  Over half our students are local residents, and the rest of our student population is enrolled through the district’s Voluntary Enrollment Exchange Program (VEEP) or School Choice program.

The daily instructional program for all students at Curie consists of balanced literacy block, a mathematics program that teaches strategies and content through discussion, exploration, analysis, written language, direct instruction, and hands-on experimentation, a science program supplemented by hands-on Foss kits, and a social studies program that is integrated into the curriculum.  Students also have art, music, and physical education as part of their weekly curriculum.

We are committed to the academic, social, and emotional growth of all our students, with the principal, teachers, and community working together to create and maintain a comprehensive curriculum based on the standards and student needs.
